Afghanistan through the Lens of Local Photographers (24th May to 21st June, 2023)
Each week, a photographer from Afghanistan will present their work and discuss their experiences and perspectives doing photography in Afghanistan. The aim of the public lecture series, which is arranged in cooperation with the Afghanistan-based story-telling agency Angoor Visuals, and the Berlin University Alliance (BUA), is to question visual representations of Afghanistan’s recent history and the role (neo)colonialism, racism, and orientalism play in visual methodologies. By turning to the work of local photographers, photography can be understood in terms of self-representation and as an act of agency. Following a presentation (max. 45 mins.), there will be a Q&A and discussion round (max. 45 mins.).

Time: Wednesdays 16.15-17.45
Place: Institut für Asien- und Afrikawissenschaften, Invalidenstr. 118, Room 507
